CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER
The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Cook Islands Tourism Corporation is responsible to provide input and impetus to the strategic direction of the Tourism sector and the management of its branches and international representation offices. Based in Rarotonga, the CEO will report to the Corporation’s Board of Directors and will be responsible for the corporation’s staff in the Cook Islands, New Zealand, Australia and North America.
The successful applicant must be a strong communicator with proven leadership skills who will harness and capitalize on new initiatives and challenges that are emerging in the Tourism sector. The recovery of the Cook Islands economy through rebuilding of the Tourism sector in the post-COVID-19 era is a key focus for the incoming CEO. They will be responsible to review and implement the processes of corporate governance, airline negotiations, strategic development, destination marketing, finance & audit, destination development, human resource development and stakeholder management.
Key competencies include:
• a strong understanding of tourism management in the Pacific region
• sound understanding of airline economics
• the sales distribution systems underpinning a destination
• strong destination marketing, sustainable tourism policy & planning
• community tourism and financial management.
Their proven ability to manage multiple stakeholder relationships and the expertise to build cooperative relationships throughout the Tourism Sector is critical. Collaboration with the Border Easement Taskforce and other Government partners is also essential to the role.
