The Public Service Commissioner wishes to congratulate the Cook Islands Met Services Director Mr. Arona Ngari for receiving the Long Service Award for over 35 years’ service to the field of meteorological services. Ngari picked up this award at the 5th Pacific Meteorological Council (PMC) meeting held from 7-9 August in Apia, Samoa. The Cook Islands Meteorological Service, operates under the Ministry of Transport and strives to ensure the integrity of the monitoring of the Cook Islands weather observational network so as to enhance the accuracy, effectiveness and understanding of impact-based forecasts. Arona graduated from Massey University with a Diploma in Public Sector Management in 2006 and then with a Master of Business Administration from USP in 2009. Arona started work with the Met Service in February 1984. In 2005, Ngari was elected to the Executive Council of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), where he represented the region for five years.
