Kia orana tatou katoatoa,

We are opening an Invitation to TWO suitable persons to apply for an exciting opportunity to participate in the up-coming Ocean Research survey in the Cook Islands EEZ.

Four other Cook Islands technical personnel have already been selected and will also be participating. They are from the National Environment Service, Seabed Minerals Authority, Cook Islands Investment Corporation and local environmental NGO, Te Ipukarea Society.

The Seabed Minerals related Research Application has been approved by the Cook Islands Research Committee, in the Office of the Prime Minister. Basically, the research work relates to some limited nodule and sediment research collection and sampling in the Reserve area north of Aitutaki in our EEZ. This area was reserved to Ocean Minerals Limited (OML) in 2017.

The Research vessel is the MV Grinna, which intends departing Avatiu wharf on the 11th or 12th of December returning on the 20th December.

The 2 positions are capacity building and training research assistance positions and are unpaid. However, food and accommodation is provided.

If you are interested, please send your CV, with your qualifications and experience, to the Seabed Minerals Authority, which is assisting with the Capacity Building aspect of this Research work. Non-Government people are also invited to  apply.

Meitaki ma’ata,

Paul Lynch
