Infrastructure Cook Islands wishes to advise the public, landowners, and business operators that we will be placing precautionary measures to control traffic and weight across the Empire Bridge.
This is as a result of preliminary findings on the Empire Bridge, as part of our ‘Bridges and Structures Inspection’ project currently being conducted by New Zealand engineering firm, BECA International Consultants.
The immediate plan is to begin a controlled one-lane traffic flow across the bridge, from this evening onwards. There may be further safety measures to be added over time, of which ICI will notify the public of.
Traffic will be moved to the reef side of the bridge effective immediately and road users are asked to reduce their speed and adhere to the Traffic Management Controls that are in place.
We apologise for the inconvenience this may cause and appreciate your continued cooperation and support.
End.
