Long time serving Emergency Management Cook Islands Director Mr Charles Carlson has officially resigned from his role within the Office of the Prime Minister. Carlson served 15 years in the role and has had a great safety record on his watch.
The office put together a surprise function to farewell their colleague. The Chief of Staff presented him with a gift showcasing the work Carlson has done for the country. Ponia spoke of Carlson's commitment to his role and the work he did tirelessly over the years in EMCI. Ponia also stated that Charles will be supporting his former colleagues in a mentoring capacity when required.
Associate minister Tingika Elikana spoke on behalf of the Prime Minister, Cabinet and Government in thanking Carlson for his work serving the people of the Cook Islands.
Carlson spoke of his passion for education in emergency preparedness saying that "our children need to be taught emergency preparedness in schools and to always be prepared".
Carlson leaves a legacy of preparedness and awareness and hopes that this continues and wishes to thank the Chief of staff, all staff and all the people of the Cook Islands as well as all stakeholders over the years who have crossed paths with him in one capacity or another. He is looking forward to an enjoyable retirement and pursuing more personal goals.
