[Media Release -TMO] Advice for Travellers Heading to New Zealand

23 December 2021

Te Marae Ora wishes to provide the following information which people travelling to New Zealand should be aware of.

Vaccination Status

Air New Zealand will only accept the following travellers on their domestic routes until 31 March 2022:

• Fully vaccinated, with proof of vaccination

• Unvaccinated who have had a negative COVID-19 test result in the 72 hours prior to travel • Unvaccinated children under 12

Proof of vaccination

Air New Zealand accepts the New Zealand domestic “My Vaccine Pass (MVP)” as the official record of vaccination status and will not accept the COVID-19 vaccine card (purple record).

The airline will also accept vaccination evidence/certificate issued by an overseas authority where the traveller received their vaccination. For example, the Vaccination Certificate letter from Te Marae Ora is an acceptable proof of vaccination, as it contains the Traveller’s Name, Vaccine Name, and the dates the doses were received. The cost for this certificate is $15.

Travellers must be fully vaccinated to travel internationally with Air New Zealand from 1 February 2022.

Transit flights from Auckland

Air New Zealand policy provides an exemption of the vaccination and testing requirement for those travelling from a QFT country with same day domestic connection, i.e., if you arrive from Rarotonga into Auckland and are able to get a connecting flight the day/night you arrive you do not need to be vaccinated or have to have a COVID test prior to a domestic flight.

However, if a passenger arriving from Rarotonga intends to travel domestically on a day later than the day of arrival (e.g., the next day), then the exemption does not apply, and those passengers will need to provide acceptable form of vaccination evidence and/or a negative COVID-19 test taken within 72 hours of travel.
