Salary:

The Revenue Management Division is seeking a dedicated and professional Detector Dog Handler to join the Cook Islands Customs Service.
This specialised role supports our border security efforts by deploying highly trained detector dogs to identify illicit drugs, firearms, currency, and other prohibited goods across air, sea, cargo, and mail environments.
As part of our frontline enforcement team, you will work closely with the Senior Customs Officer – Airport, Customs operational units, Police, Biosecurity, and regional partners, including the NZ Customs Service Detector Dog Programme.

Key Responsibilities

• Daily care, welfare, and training of detector dogs
• Operational deployment across airport, maritime, cargo, and inter agency environments
• Interpreting indications and supporting enforcement actions
• Maintaining accurate records, reports, and training documentation
• Collaborating with internal and external enforcement partners

About You
We’re looking for someone with:

• At least 3 years’ experience in enforcement, border security, police, or Customs operations
• Strong judgment, professionalism, and ability to work independently
• Commitment to operational excellence, teamwork, and public sector values
• Ability to complete (or already hold) an approved Detector Dog Handler qualification
