The Public Service Commissioner invites applications for the position of: Secretary of Foreign Affairs and Immigration. Te Kauono Tutara e te Mana Tiaki – Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Immigration.
As the Secretary or Head of the Ministry (HOM) of Foreign Affairs and Immigration, you will be responsible for representing and advocating for the Cook Islands’ interests and strengthening its influence internationally, and for providing immigration services.
You are also accountable for ensuring Public Service excellence through the effective and efficient delivery of the Ministry’s functions and Cook Islands Government policies.
The Secretary is accountable for ensuring that the functions of the Ministry are developed, maintained and administered according to MFAI and Government legislation by:
• Providing strategic advice on the services delivered by MFAI, to the responsible Minister and other Ministers of the Crown;
• Leading MFAI to achieve Government priorities;
• Acting on directives issued by the Minister and the Public Service Commissioner;
• Providing reports to the Public Service Commissioner and the Parliament on the performance, finances and operations of the Ministry;
• Considering such matters relative to protecting the interests of the Cook Islands, and upholding its values on the international stage.
Qualification requirements
• Postgraduate degree in International Relations, Economics, Development or Public Administration and Management.
Experience
• 10 years’ working experience at a senior management level, leading and directing teams; Strong understanding of business, finance and other areas of management;
• Works collaboratively with relevant stakeholders in the development of Ministry, Sector and National policies.
