MFEM Strategic Plan 2022-2026: Te Ara Tukatau – Our journey forward

Last night we launched our Strategic Plan 2022 - 2026: Te Ara Tukatau - Our journey forward.

The launch was livestreamed and included a panel discussing the economic challenges the Cook Islands face over the next five years. The panel emphasized the importance of government agencies working together collaboratively with each other, the private sector, our other community stakeholders and development partners to face these challenges.

Many thanks to the panel members for their insightful contributions:

• Fletcher Melvin Former Chamber of Commerce President and Business Owner

• MFEM Financial Secretary Garth Henderson

• Cook Islands Tourism CEO Karla Eggelton

• Chamber of Commerce CEO Rebecca Tavioni

• Business Representative from the Pa Enua Donna Tuara.

The Strategic Plan sets out MFEM's priorities and explains how MFEM will continue to improve so it can best play its part in supporting the Cook Islands’ recovery.

Garth Henderson - "MFEM has a broad range of responsibilities. Working collaboratively with other Government agencies and our wider stakeholders will be critical to deliver the priorities set out in this Strategic Plan and to create the greatest possible positive impact for Cook Islanders."

The Plan’s key priorities are:

· Securing a strong and sustainable economy

· Restoring sustainable public finances

· Providing leadership to strengthen the Cook Islands public sector

· Strengthening MFEM's capacity and connectedness.

Mr Henderson says these priorities are ambitions and emphasises the need for MFEM to be constantly agile working internally and with partners across the community. "The next five years will be the most challenging in recent times. Our management and staff remain committed to strengthen our professionalism, competency and to inspire public trust."

MFEM would like to acknowledge the technical assistance provided by ADB to support MFEM, including providing guidance and support to develop this Strategic Plan. Special thanks to Iain Rennie, consultant.
