Smaller Island States (SIS) Officer - Pacific and Regional Affairs Division

The purpose of this role is to assist in advising Government, the public service and other stakeholders
on Smaller Island States affairs. As a Smaller Islands States Officer, you will assist in formulating recommendations to protect and promote the Cook Island's interests in its dealings with international partners and provide timely, high-quality policy advice to Government.

Key responsibilities of this role are relationship management and coordination, representation and negotiation, and the effective facilitation and implementation of the SIS work programme.

The Secretary is accountable for ensuring that the functions of the Ministry are developed, maintained
and administered according to MFAI and Government legislation by:

* Providing strategic advice on the services delivered by MFAI, to the responsible Minister and other Ministers of the Crown
* Leading MFAI to achieve Government priorities
* Acting on directives issues by the Minister and the Public Service Commissioner
* Providing reports to the Public Service Commissioner and Parliament on the performance, finances
and operations of the Ministry
* Considering such matters relative to protecting the interests of the Cook Islands, and upholding its
values on the international stage

Qualification requirements
Postgraduate degree in International Relations, Economics, Development or Public Administration
and Management

Experience
* 10 years' working experience at a senior management level, leading and directing teams
* Strong understanding of business, finance and other areas of management
* Works collaboratively with relevant stakeholders in the development of Ministry, sector and national policies
